Any travel agents out there that can give me some feedback on how the biz works, I am thinking of becoming...?

I am thinking of becoming a travel agent and just want to know a little about how it works and is it a lucrative job? I am about to finish a degree in marketing and I can always make a great living in sales/marketing, but I think being a travel agent will offer more adventure for me and my little adventuresome family.
